MOON involved root

Moon low in horizon is an inspiring sight: there is an illusion of large moon disk. In car full moon hanging above the far end of the road gives good vibrations. Similair feelings arise when moon meets bright planets in the morning and evening twilight. Often an extra benefit is perceived: faintly glowing earthshine.

This page has been completely re-structured:
*Pages in the left column are more or less "moon with scenery".
*Pages in the right column are links to traditional lunar images: lunar phases and craters.

First shortly of lunar phases.
Moon has been photographed through a small 70 mm refractor. Sure, this is not what larger scopes can show, but because I myself am so excited of this little gadget, I cannot resist posting samples taken with it (using 4 Mpixel pocket camera). Actually, there is now about 900 images which have been posted in order from growing crescent to full moon and further to vanishing cresent. Also be aware: some pages may include up to 200 thumbnails/page. More details are given on pages themselves.

Secondly shortly of "processed images" (those with "Moon -...").
Images (more than 400) there have been collected from the vast archive of lunar phases. Carefully selected apparent size differences and libration samples have been compiled to show some extremes photographed during 16 months. Also, a very comprehensive collection of terminator shift (how terminator craters look like when terminator changes) has been put together. And finally opposite terminators show how particular terminator looks like during growing and vanishing phase.

Moon was my ever first target when I got my first SLR Asahi Pentax Spotmatic and when I could attach it to the telescope of our astronomical society. I will never forget my very first gibbous moon print: it was rich with craters, accidentally printed as a mirror image but that was no problem. It had a carefully taped transparent cover on it; the cover had crater IDs printed. What a treasure it was!
